Needless to say, the place was jam pack. Escalators on both directions had long lines of people leaving or heading to the Food Fair.
This year's food selection seemed to be a little lesser and there were more seating available. There was this drink stall selling Chin Chao at only $0.50. Cheap right!? (No, I didn't buy) Then there were also several otah stalls selling packet otah at 3 for $10, Braised Pork Bun, Paper thin Pizza, Crepes at $2, Curry Fishballs etc.
There was this stall selling chilli crab and black pepper crab! Here's a picture! Despite being a crab lover, I didn't give it a try because it will be too messy to eat on the spot and I was afraid that the crabs used were not fresh. Not that we should expect super fresh crabs. Crab lovers would get the drift. In anycase, I took a sniff while walking by and the black pepper crab smelt delish.
So here's what I've gotten.
1) Neo Garden Catering - Chicken Curry
This was quite an attraction to matured ladies and to myself (not that I'm very matured, like them) because of the word 'FREE' microwavable container. Get 1 container w curry at $4.50 or 3 sets at $12. The container is worth $3.90 so it was quite a good bargain.
Big cooker for the potatoes and chicken. Potato looks hard but was reasonably soft, the way I like it. You can use a spoon and slice thru it effortlessly. Chicken given was a mixture of drumsticks and wings, all simmered till tender and soft. One bite and the meat falls off. Thumbs up for that! (:
2) 8Tarts n Pastries : Outlets at Tampines Mall, Vivocity, Causeway Point, Jem Shopping Mall(?)
Big stall with big red banner. There were other pastries besides egg tarts, like polo bun and cold tarts.
What caught my attention besides the ongoing promo of buy 4 egg tarts and get 1 free, was the flavours available. The egg tarts are priced at a range from $1.40 - $1.60/each
Would you look at that? Heaps of egg tarts waiting to fill your hungry stomach.
There were flavours like Fresh Soya Egg White, Dark Chocolate, Portuguese, Durian, Cheesy, Cempedak, Coconut and of course, the original egg tart that is known as Chef's Egg tart.
Clockwise direction, Dark Chocolate, Cemepdak, coconut, Cheesy and Fresh Soya.
Now for the close up(s) :
Does the phrase Dark Chocolate Egg Tart reminds you of KFC? The small lil drop of chocolate that you almost couldn't even taste it? Well, 8Tarts n Pastries's Dark Chocolate egg tart will not disappoint you! The amount of chocolate is so WOAH! Just take a look at the picture! The amount of chocolate.. oh gosh! Sinful sinful sinful.. Do give this a try if you ever chance upon it.
Cheesy Egg tart that looks like the Portuguese Egg tart. Boyf. had this and said it was nice - wasn't too cheesy.
Next, the Fresh Soya that looks so perfect, almost like lao ban's tao huay. I can say that this is like the 'healthier choice'. Not very sweet and blends well with the pie crust.
Like the Dark Chocolate Egg tart, the Cempedak Egg tart had a huge chunk of fruit in it. Smells mouth-watering, taste like heaven! (okay, I exaggerate) This was the flavour that really made me stop in my tracks because 1. I love cempedak 2. Have you seen or taste cempedak egg tart before?! This is also another must-try!
Didn't take a close up for the Coconut egg tart because it was for the ol'man and he wasn't home when I was around.
3) Otah Bun
This is relatively common in Food Fairs, whether it's at Expo or at Suntec. I love the bun and I love otah too. So when some genius decided to combine this 2 together, it became a must eat whenever I chance upon it. It's priced at $1.50/each.
Here's the deal about paying $1.50 for an otah bun when you could get similar ones in bread form at $0.90? A dollar? A BIG PIECE OF FISH/ MACKERAL IN THE OTAH PASTE! No fishy smell or taste. That's quite a good deal, isn't it? The boyf. said he'll only have a mouth, but when he set his teeth thru it, he was hooked. Took a second bite and kept asking if I wanted to buy another. HAHAHA.
4) Kangaroo nuts.
Sorry, I didn't take a picture of it. Kangaroo is one of the many nut brands available in SG - we have Tong Guan, Camel etc. In the recent food fairs, I've seen them setting up booth and selling their packet nuts at promotional price of $10 for 3 packs. They have a range of assorted nuts, from cashew to pistachio, almonds and even macadamia nuts.
After a few tasting on the cashew nuts - my family now has a habit of taking a small portion of nuts everyday because it's apparently good for health, although it is better to take it even any seasoning - I bought 2 packet of Maple Glazed Cashews and 1 packet Garlic Cashews. Pretty tasty and the flavours are not too flavourful that it covers the natural sweetness of the cashew.
Go grab a packet at NTUC Fairprice, Sheng Siong, Giant or even CK Departmental Store.
That's all for today's post and have a good weekend.
Leaving a last picture of my ootd: Cotton On Crop top and high-waist short from a shop at Century Sq.
Wishing all muslim friends a happy new year, Selamat Hari Raya. May you have a good year ahead with your family (:
