Boon Tong Kee Review (Whampoa West)

Hi there! Hope you had a jolly celebration for christmas and the upcoming New Year's eve!
I'm back for an update on BTK! It's my virgin try so i was really excited because 1)bf was treating the family 2) it's food - who doesn't love food?

Here's a picture of the hanging boiled cheekans. Looking delicious!

Here's what we ordered:
$13 boiled chicken which is probably half a chicken? Definitely enough for 5pax. We all prefer the chicken rice stall at Chinatown! BTK's is less juicy and tender.

$10 Claypot Liver
Soooooo good, i tell you! The liver was fresh and it came in huge thinly sliced pieces. There's something about the sauce that made this dish so delish!

$8 (i think) Mei Cai with Brasied Pork Belly
the veg was stewed to perfect softness and of course, the pork belly had melt in your mouth fats! (:
Very suitable for parents!

I can't remember how much this cost, but this is Spinach with trio eggs.
Not bad, nothing much to rave about. This dish was pretty neglected when the other food arrived. Haha!

Fried Crispy Tofu, price (forgot)! Please order this.
It is da boom! It was executed well and the taste is good enough on its own though, they provided mayo by the side.

Look at how silky tionk-tionk the tofu was! I had like 4 cubes of this!

Last order was the Cereal Prawn.
$30 for 5 pcs which i felt was alil expensive! They charge by weigh.
Nevertheless, the cereal was OMG! I kept having mouthful of it with rice.
Very fragrant and tasty.

Together with 6 bowls of rice, 4 teas and 1 sugarcane water chestnut drink, the bill came up to $115.
Service was good though we waited for about 20 - 30mins before getting a table,  I was standing by the open concept kitchen, watching the shifu cutting up chickens! So it didn't feel like a long wait.
Seats are pretty limited so be there early if possible and they only take reservations for 10pax and above.

I Miss Taiwan

Hey you! It's another week of test and assignment hence the hiatus. Sorry! Anway, I will try to blog about the trip to Taiwan (I miss that place, alot) but let me first show you some of the OOTD pictures when I was there.

Heads up first, though it rained everyday, it didn't stop us from travelling around and the cold was bearable. Probably cause I had some 'training' on tolerating the cold before I left for Taiwan (:

28Nov, was the night we flew off via Scoot at 1255 -Midnight flight.

I wore: white Cotton on spaghetti underneath, a sheer white top and cotton on's leggings. Note that CO stuff are really thin! I had a black zara cardigan on and a Harry potter gryffindor scarf, on flight.

The boyf wore: Fred Perry long sleeves, CO's cargo pants and brought along a NUM jacket which he didn't use until we reahed Taipei 101.

Thats us at Taipei 101. We were pretty tired by this time, around 12pm.

29 Nov, was the 2nd day there. Headed to Jinguashi, Jiufen and Shifen.
I wore:  OSF kitten pullover with Uniqlo's heat-tech long sleeve underneath. Leather shorts with leggings
The boyf wore: Cotton On checkered long sleeves and jeans

30Nov: Shopping at Zhong Xiao Fuxing SOGO instead of the planned Yehliu Gepark cause it was pouring pretty heavily. Xinbeitou for hotspring and Shilin Nightmarket

I wore: Uniqlo's heat-tech underneath, thin girl top, floral shorts from JB, H&M leggings and Fred Perry shoes.

1 Dec: Taipei Zoo
I wore: Promod leather jacket, aztec bodycon dress, H&M Leggings, boots.

2 Dec: Last day, at TY Airport.

I wore: Cotton on floral romper, H&M Leggings, promod leather jacket
The boyf wore: Fred Perry checkered short sleeve and Jeans

I'll be back for a more detailed post on the trip! Gonna do up my assignment now!
Oh, and don't you feel all lazy and jolly because Christmas is coming?! (:

Nail Project

Hey there, today I'm blogging about the place, Nail Project, where I do my pedi & mani (virgin try). Rates are pretty reasonable where an express mani is $10 and express pedi is $15.

Here's the interior of the shop.

Love their new layout because previously, the shop space was probably only half of this.
So last saturday, the mother and I went for a session.
Mum: Express gelish + Express pedi
Me: Express mani + pedi
Total damage only $68! Sharon, the manicurist, didn't charge my mother the extra cost for gold glitters on her nails. Sharon is very meticulous and friendly. Super love her service! You know sometimes when you do express services, they tend to just do a sloppy job? But sharon doesn't, which is a very good thing IMHO.

Mummy did a purple base with gold glitters at the tip of her nails for her gelish manicure.

Her express pedi colour. Shimmering red. She says it's like a xmas wrapper or some sort.

As for me, I did this colour! Pardon the nails length because I can't keep my nails.

My pedi colour. Shimmering maroon brownish colour.

Been patronizing them for 2 years or so? Really love the good service and they have a variety of colours to choose from.

PS: Colours are all under OPI except for gelish!

Address: Blk 108 Hougang Ave 1 #01-1255,
Tel: 62888971 (give Sharon a call for appt)
Closes every Mon.
Opening Hours: 11am - 8pm

I'm heading to Taiwan tonight (OMG!) and am very excited! Couldn't sleep at all. This is just the amount for accommodation (with change, of course) Will blog about the trip when I return (:

Meanwhile, I shall leave you with a picture of last sat's dinner which I cooked for the bro and the boyf.
1. Prawns with egg
2. Veg with tofu
3. Salmon with sauce
4. Pork slice with golden mushroom

Ippudo (Mandarin Gallery) Review

A week more to

TAIWAN!

Am so excited about it (:

***

Sorry for the hiatus! Been really busy with school, work and I fell sick for the nth time this year.
Awhile back, the boyf. and I went to try Ippudo at Mandarin Gallery. I really love the setting and they had long tables (which I was served to) where different groups of dinners sit together when the individual tables are taken up. So it gets kinda awkward because if your partner chooses to sit in front of you, then someone else could be sitting next to you. Get it? Like a long canteen table!

Love how they had different sizes and patterns of bowls up on a board as deco.

This was the long table I was seated at.

So after settling down, looking at the menu, we decided on :
2 mains, a gyoza and a calpis drink (my fav!).

First up, they served the Calpis. Very tasty like diluted yalkut!

Then came the Gyoza - Ippudo Orginal Gyoza, which was pretty small in size but very juicy!
Alil different from what you normally get at the China la mian stalls.

Then the mains arrived. This was Shiromaru Tamago (ie. Flavoured egg!)
Decided on trying something really simple and boy I love the soup.
Nearly finish it all up but was refrain by the boyf. Then again, he finished his share of soup -.-

My first tamago experience and I saved it for the last! Hahaha.
Lovely texture from the yolk and the egg was pretty chewy. Likes!

Here's my 'medium' style noodle (choose hard, medium or soft for noodles texture).
I don't know what the bowl was made up of but the soup was still pretty warm even half way down eating.

The boyf's Shiromaru Chashu. Love the pork belly!

See the ratio 1: 1 of fats and meat? I 'sup' it up - even the fats!
Super love this but the boyf felt that it was a tad salty. Wasn't to me.

That is all. You must be wandering why I didn't order the popular pork bun. I forgot! (shoot me!) :(
In any case, it was a wah-wah experience and I don't understand the hype of it but I guess their service is really good and the food is to my liking.

There was this diner who was probably trying Ippudo for the first time and had trouble with the menu, so he asked for help and the server was very patience, explained what's the difference in certain ramen dish and all. He even stoop down to the level of the diner when talking - eye contact is very impt!. Thumbs up for that! I mean some server will just stand and explain with you looking up to him/her. Found that lil gesture very comforting! Jap culture v Sg culture. tsk.

Anyways, I would love to try out other ramen and may return to Ippudo soon - for the pork bun. The boyf isn't very keen to this though. He says there isn't a big diff between this and Ramen Play! -.-

Have you tried it? What's your verdict?

The Line @ Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore

Hi there

it's assignment week at school and i fell sick on monday! Boo, Had a running fever of 38.2 degree. FML! Was so touched by my friends (not even close friends) concern at school and of course, other friends who knew I was sick. (:

Anyhoos, had a dinner treat to The Line at Shangri-La hotel. Wasn't very fantastic IMHO. I would rather visit Buffet Town at Raffles Shopping Mall or Vienna Buffet at United Sq. Cheaper, and more varieties. I guess at The Line, it's more on the ambiance, the seafood - oysters, scallops, prawns etc - and the desserts. Oh, the laksa is also pretty good!

Okay, I'll show you some pictures. But the image quality isn't very good. Pardon me.
First, OOTD!

This is where the Teh-Tarik counter was. Read reviews that e teh tarik was good so I took one and yes, it really was! :D (See the lighting? isn't very good cause The Line theme is white and orange. So half of the area was in such lighting)

Pork Belly in fermented prawn paste, I think. Not bad but the meat was a tad tough.

I went to the desserts section next. Hohoho!

I saw a durian cake and was like MUST TRY! But when I went back, it was gone and they didn't replenish it anymore! :'(

This was what I took (clock wise direction): Some hazelnut, dark chocolate dessert (will have fever instantly), Opera cake which was pretty good, Mango shortcake (okay..) and Coffee Creme Brulee (very nice!)

Another shot of whatever cake this was.

This is the roti prata, naan section. Wasn't fantastic! I rather have my naan at the stretch of prata stalls opposite Beauty World

Took satay (Beef, lamb and chicken) - chicken was my fav that night -
lamb, chicken and naan.

Pasta section. Taste like any other pizza.

Salad section which was not very popular even though it was so colourful and inviting to try.

This was my plate when I started taking the dish. Pork belly in fermented prawn paste, Brinjal (nice!), Cha soba - Ichiban serves better ones - and a sauteed potato which was omg!

Dim Sum section. Har Gao was pretty good! The other 2 which I couldn't make up what it was, was passable.

Laksa which was shiok! Had quail egg and a huge prawn! Gravy was very smooth and creamy. Likes! I didn't even put any chilli! Heard the satay beehoon was also pretty awesome. They had other cooked chinese dish like wanton mee and prawn noodle as well.

Sorry there wasn't any oyster pictures because I don't take oysters. But the boy was grabbing for the oysters and said it was really good. I tried the cold prawns though! Fresh and juicy! So the seafood is pretty good as well.

Anyway, they gave us a birthday cake to take home because it was the boyf's sis bday celebration and she was the one treating so, service was still pretty good I must say. (: Well, I heard each person was about $80? and I just didn't feel it was worth it. It's a free meal so what else can I ask for right?

That's all folks! Gotta go for a class in a few hours time! Have a jolly weekend! :D
